ABC had projected a 2.2 and a 2.0 rating in the demo for the first two episodes, according to a network source. The 65-year-old who was at LAX on Monday night responded with a sarcastic laugh "Hahahaha".

While Trump said the show's major ratings were because "it was about us", reflecting the average American, Jabbar said, "the show he's boasting about relentlessly criticizes him and his policies more ruthlessly than nearly any other program on television".

TV critics have credited the show's built-in fan base, star-power, sharp writing, and its relatable portrayal of a working-class family.

Former NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar argued that the revival of the sitcom, "Roseanne", which has largely been dubbed a show in favor of President Donald Trump, actually exemplifies his various failures. By comparison, the original eight seasons of Will & Grace, which partially overlapped with those of Roseanne (and which also returned to TV this season), amassed 83 noms and 16 wins.

Some insiders think it's not possible for the show to match last week's overnight rating of 18 million.

In fact, Trump's name won't even be mentioned in any of the nine total episodes.

The morning show "Fox & Friends" had multiple segments about the success of "Roseanne" on Tuesday morning. Mr. Trump later touted the show's ratings at a Cleveland rally, "not realizing that the show he's boasting about relentlessly criticizes him and his policies more ruthlessly than nearly any other program on television", Mr. Abdul-Jabbar wrote in an op-ed for The Hollywood Reporter.
