Will you be playing any pranks this year?

In India, there have been numerous evidence to April Fools' Day in cinema and popular literature.

April 1 or April Fool's Day is dedicated to celebrating pranks and silliness. Other instances link April Fools' Day to ancient Roman festival Hilaria, where people would dress up in disguises and enjoy the spring.

This day calls for plenty jokes and outrages hoaxes.

However, there is some evidence it originated from the time of Pope Gregory XIII, who adopted the Gregorian calendar in 1582 and moved New Year's Day from March to January. As a result, those who accepted the new calendar considered others to be fools because they refused to change. Earlier New Year's Day was celebrated around April.

However, scholars believe "began" is a scribal error and Chaucer actually meant 32 days after March ends, or May 2.

Burger King perpetrated a world-famous prank when they ran a full-page advert in United States of America today in 1998 plugging the 'left-handed Whopper'.

Today is the special day to play pranks on others.

The voiceover said: "Many of you, I am sure, will have seen pictures of the vast spaghetti plantations in the Po valley", before adding that this year had seen a record crop thanks to "the virtual disappearance of the spaghetti weevil".
