The Citizens can win the Premier League title if they beat the Red Devils at the weekend.

The following season, Guardiola doubled-down on his attacking philosophy leaving his defence 3 v 3 against Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar for an engrossing game but one in which the team landing the first punch would win.

City boss Pep Guardiola conceded that stopping the dynamite trio will be a almost impossible task, noting that the Reds have goals in them all over the pitch.

Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals.

But this would not be pragmatic.

"I understand the people are talking about United now, but all the decisions I am going to take is thinking about Liverpool - the game before United and after United".

However, with Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling at his disposal, the tie looks to have the potential to be absolutely laden with goals.

Klopp has helped Liverpool rediscover their attacking edge with feared trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino forming a potent front trio.

The victory kept the Reds in third position in the league table as they bid to try and finish in the top four this season and book their place in next season's Champions League.

If teams pressed them with intensity, they knew they had faced worse on a daily basis.

Can City cope with the Anfield "fire"?

They are fantastic, fantastic players.

Liverpool have little time to savour their win, however, as they return to action on Wednesday when they face Premier League leaders City at Anfield in Europe's elite club competition.

It's very exciting, It's the quarter finals of the Champions League and I've never played at this stage before. It won't matter if City fail to stop Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku next Saturday, but it will mean everything if they can stifle Salah, Mane and Firmino.

"We play against ourselves and say 'that is the target, we have to overcome.' We will be able or not able to overcome that". Against Liverpool, however, it all boils down to two games of knockout football to keep City's ambitions of winning the Champions League alive.
