Cinderella going home: Michigan ends Loyola-Chicago's run to Final Four

The Ramblers, meanwhile, tried only three such shots, so that it mattered little that they made none.

MI jumped out to a 12-4 lead, causing Moser to call timeout with 12:38 left.

The critics were quick to come out calling Sister Jean a "fraud" while some questioned whether she lost faith in Loyola, but it turns out Sister Jean was just doing what she always does. The Wolverines made it to their first Final Four that season. The previous best was 29 wins in the 1962-63 season. "And that's the way we're going to do them". The basketball world will never be the same if the Ramblers and team chaplain Sister Jean are able to hoist the trophy.

There also will be some decisions for Moser and Loyola.

The Ramblers could only hope to accomplish something like that, having not made the NCAA Tournament in over 30 years.

MI forward Moritz Wagner (13) high fives MI guard Charles Matthews (1) after a three.

Cameron Krutwig, Loyola's big man in the middle, scored 17 points and Clayton Custer had 13 of his 15 after halftime.

Malik Newman's year of work has paid off with a trip to the Final Four.

Kansas has won five national championships, but its last was 10 years ago.

"(The problem) was rebounding", Loyola guard Donte Ingram said. When the height and might and the Wolverines' Moritz Wagner finally found its way to pluck a spree of turnovers and wreak a spree of baskets in the early evening Saturday, the NCAA tournament bracket that happily let Loyola Chicago snuggle in it for three giddy weeks finally went ahead and let it go.

0-4 Record for No. 11 seeds in the Final Four. While it's not ideal that they have only put together one standout offensive performance, the fact that the Wolverines keep finding ways to win should be encouraging.

The game started in Michigan's favor with the only three-pointers between the two teams in the first half coming from point guard Charles Matthews and then center Mortiz "Moe" Wagner.

Custer scored seven straight points for Loyola at one point to put the Ramblers up 41-31 with 14:08 remaining.

Both teams advanced deeper into March Madness because of last-moment shots in earlier rounds.

It's been an nearly all-or-nothing thing for Villanova and Jay Wright when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. It was the program's first appearance in the big dance since 1985. But this time, the nun consoled the players after her prayers went unanswered. "Now we're playing on Monday night".

Michigan's 6-foot-11 Wagner would stop the bleeding and end the run with no answer for him down low when the Ramblers took out the 6-foot-9 Krutwig and went to a small ball scheme at times.

After being picked in the preseason to finish third in the MVC, Loyola's mounting victories eventually made them a front-runner for much of this season.

For all the struggles MI had early, its finish was equally impressive as the Wolverines just overpowered Loyola down the stretch time and time again.

As is normally the case, people came running to their social media accounts with their best jokes following the Ramblers' loss and they dug deep into the archives to dig up the classic Crying Jordan meme.

Beilein says he isn't saying the seeding was wrong, but that "it's an inexact science to try and figure out".
