Storm Emma puts paid to holidaymakers' plans at Bristol Airport

In London, Heathrow Airport says that it is working with airlines to consolidate flight schedules in order to provide more certainty regarding departing flights.

"However there were significant cancellations and delays due to the impact of adverse weather here and also at a number of airports in Britain and in continental Europe".

No flights will take off or land after 4 pm due to Storm Emma.

Airport officials urged anyone planning to fly today to check the status of their flights before making the trek to the airport.

A red weather warning issued for Wales and the southwest of England led to Flybe cancelling its flights from Exeter and Cardiff while easyJet axed its ervices from Bristol.

"We have reviewed our service position for the rest of the day, assessing current road conditions with the predicted weather reports".

Ryanair blamed its most recent decisions on Brexit and air passenger duty (APD), with airport bosses also calling for the Scottish Government to introduce its proposed cheaper air departure tax (ADT).

"We thank passengers for their continued patience during these challenging weather conditions, but safety of our passengers and staff is a key priority".

Kerry airport said it would remain closed until midday on Saturday, weather permitting.
