City can go within one win of securing the title with victory at Goodison Park but Guardiola is taking nothing for granted after they lost 4-0 there last season.

Stones picked up the head injury during England's 1-1 friendly draw with Italy and Guardiola said that head injury protocol needed to be followed.

Sterling has found the net 19 times this season in the Premier League and Europe, also providing seven assists to prove his elevating performance. The former Liverpool player is already under contract until 2020, but it is understood City will open negotiations on an improved extension at the end of the season.

Guardiola is fully aware of the player's importance to the club. "Anything can happen but he knows how important he is to us".

"In terms of contracts I'm not the guy, it's Txiki who's talking about that".

Sterling was man of the match in England's 1-1 draw against Italy, and from being a fringe player a year ago is now considered a certain starter when England take to the field in Russian Federation in June.

"No doubts, it's so important (to keep him)", said the City manager.

Guardiola said Sergio Aguero, who missed Argentina's two friendlies during the worldwide break with a knee injury, was doing better but suggested he was unlikely to feature against Everton. "But I have still tried to prepare for Everton as if it is the most important game of the season".

He had said: "In Madrid, I don't have the confidence a player needs".

"We have to know, everybody has to know, that we [have to be] in our best levels or you can not overcome those stages", he said.
