Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday attended the joint funeral prayer of 11 soldiers who lost their lives in Swat attack on Saturday.

"The soldiers were playing volleyball in the evening outside the military base. when a suicide bomber managed to blow himself up", an official told Reuters. The death toll may further increase as several injured were in a critical condition, health officials said. In the meantime, the CTD police carried out another raid at Shawar area in Matta tehsil and arrested a militant commander, Mohammad Ali Shah, who was allegedly involved in attacks on security forces.

The military statement said 13 people were injured in the blast and have admitted to the hospital.

The incident has created concerns among the residents of the area as it reminded them the terror wave in the valley that had eventually resulted in their displacement in 2009.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi strongly condemned the attack, saying the coward terrorist enemy is no match for the valiant sons of the soil.

"No cowardly attack can deter us in pursuing our struggle against the menace of terrorism to its logical conclusion". Earlier the Pakistani Taliban militants had a strong influence in most parts of Swat.

They were defeated two years later after a series of military operations that have since been hailed as the blueprint for the Pakistani military's continuing battle against the group.
