"Economic conditions in India have improved and customers want cars that offer value for money", Kookhyun Shim, managing director of Kia Motors India, told Reuters on the sidelines of the country's biennial auto show in Greater Noida near the capital, New Delhi.

Going by Tata's past concepts such as the Nexon, we can expect the production-spec model to retain most of the elements of the flashy 45X concept. Auto Expo is the largest gathering of auto manufacturers in India.

Tata Motors have believed in affordable commuter vehicles and the approach towards bringing mainstream vehicles like Tiago and Tigor into the electric segment will help cut cost and eventually price the cars at a competitive price.

He said that only after there is clarity, the company would be able to assess whether such vehicles could be manufactured in the country.

Currently, M&M is the only carmaker to have commercially launched EVs in India - the e2o hatchback and the eVerito sedan.

Ashok Leyland launched its first electric bus, Circuit S, which offers seating facility for around 25 to 35 people. Also, there was an electric version of its first race auto RaceMo, among others.

The company displayed its Soul EV along with plug in hybrid models, Optima and Niro, while also unveiling its SP Concept, the conventional India-specific SUV which will be launched next year.

Lohia Auto, part of the diversified Lohia Group, today launched battery-operated three-wheeler Comfort E Auto.

The e-KUV100 is the unique combination of an SUV along with the advantages of an electric vehicle.

The company said the vehicle boasts a range of over 140 km on a single charge, and optional fast charging which can extend its range by 80 per cent in less than an hour.

The company plans to add a new CNG vertical and introduce new models of diesel and electric vehicles in the coming quarter, he added.

Now, the vehicle was expected at the Auto Expo 2018 and well, Tata Motors sprung a surprise here too.

Renault India Pvt. Ltd showcased a number of electric cars as well. According to Renault, the Zoe is flawless for the Indian market and will introduce it when the proper ecosystem is built for electric cars in India. The engines are supplied by two batteries with a storage capacity of 40 KW that allows full power to be achieved.

On the first of the two pre-open days at the India Expo Mart located in Greater Noida, automobile major Maruti Suzuki showcased "e-SURVIVOR" electric vehicle (EV) design concept. The X-Blade will be available in five colour options- Matte Marvel Blue Metallic, Matte Frozen Silver Metallic, Pearl Spartan Red, Pearl Igneous Black and Matte Marshal Green Metallic.

The Expo witnessed 65 unveilings and 14 launches, including Hyundai's new Elite i20, Mercedes' Maybach S650 priced at Rs 2.73 crore and the unveiling of Toyota's mid-sized sedan Yaris and Honda's all-new Amaze, SUV CR-V and premium sedan Civic that will make a comeback to the Indian market.

The Tamo RaceMo was first showcased by the Tata Motors at the 2017 Geneva motor show.

The bookings will start mid-February and deliveries will be done as early as mid August.

UM Motorcycles has also introduced three new motorcycles including the Renegade Thor, which is the world's first electric cruiser motorcycle. Power output is 186 bhp and it has 210 Nm of peak torque.

The company has priced Comfort E Auto HS at Rs 1.49 lakh (ex showroom Delhi) and comes with facilities such as central locking and Global Positioning System.

Hero Electric also unveiled eight of its global products in India, at the expo and the company said it planned to launch these products in a phased manner.
