In the speech, Trump is expected to address his plans for rebuilding the nation's crumbling bridges, roads and airports, long viewed by Republicans and Democrats as a potential area of bipartisan support.

Michael's Moore said "we must also cleanse our American soul of our white male privilege" at the "People's State of the Union" event at The Town Hall in New York, Monday, Jan. 29, 2018. "To do that successfully, we need the president and the White House making the case every day instead of every sixth day".

Republicans and Democrats can not agree on a policy that allows hundreds of thousands of young, undocumented immigrants to live and work in the US.

The President will talk about the North Korean threat in a "strong and serious way", the source said. His approval rating has hovered in the 30s for much of his presidency and at the close of 2017, just 3 in 10 Americans said the United States was heading in the right direction, according to a poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Hard to say exactly, but in broad strokes, here's some of what you can expect.

At last year's speech, Trump won praise for sticking to the teleprompter.

"Wearing black to #SOTU isn't about Trump", tweeted Rep. Lois Frankel, D-Fla.

When asked on MSNBC if she had plans to go, she said: "Oh, no".

Yet Trump's major disadvantage remains the completely polarized electorate, with many voters so turned off by his personality and divisive politics that they're unable to acknowledge any of his administration's gains.

Mr. Trump is expected to touch on that DACA issue, which has detractors in both parties - a number of Republicans don't like the thought of offering a pathway to citizenship for people in the US illegally - while a number of Democrats don't like the immigration enforcement plans that the White House wants in exchange.

Trump's remarks will also address two topics he frequently discusses: fair and reciprocal trade, and ensuring America's safety by "returning to clarity about our friends and adversaries", the official said.

Trump is scheduled to deliver the address on Tuesday (30 January) at 9 pm EST. Since then, though, the tone of Trump's speeches has waned, with a year full of squabbles and backbiting.

The White House has spent weeks crafting the State of the Union speech, seeking input from Cabinet heads and agency leaders. "So like past year, he will speak in that vein to the country".

"I can not in good consciousness attend the #SOTU address after the president went so low in his remarks about Haiti & African nations". In particular, the President will invite someone affected by the opioid crisis.

Mr. Trump brings up ratings often, and he should be able to take comfort in knowing that tens of millions of people are sure to be watching his State of the Union Tuesday night.

Liberals were quick to pounce on President Trump.
