Police initially planned to arrest the man for disorderly conduct. At 1:30 a.m. on December 31, while escorting Ziemba to his hotel room, the officer called for urgent backup after his attempts to subdue the man failed.

Once police arrived around 1:30 a.m., they searched the man's room on the 28th floor, the top floor of the hotel, where they found the weapons and ammo cache.

COPS have collared a man in possession of a small arsenal of guns at a high-rise hotel where a major New Year's celebration is planned, in Houston, Texas. When police went to his room to retrieve his belongings, they found ammunition, an AR-15, a shotgun and a handgun, police said. "He's intoxicated so they won't be able to interview him till he's sobered up a bit", said Lt. Gordon MacIntosh, per the Houston Chronicle. Police also confiscated his truck and were searching it for more weapons.

Meanwhile, below the suspect's hotel room, hundreds of revelers will gather for the Hyatt's New Years Eve celebration at the hotel with a 50,000 balloon drop at the stroke of midnight. The name of the suspect is not being released at this time. Investigators say he was by himself and they are trying to figure out why he had the weapons.

Acevedo said on Twitter earlier Sunday that the situation was "contained" and there were no specific threats to Houston.
