In a new interview with Melinda Newman for Billboard, Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow discussed several factors involved with the Grammy telecast's return to Madison Square Garden for the first time in 15 years. Music's biggest night is no exception: On Sunday, the Grammy Awards will celebrate 60 years of honoring the talented artists of the music industry. Those who opposed Adele's win said the Grammys were not only behind with the times, sticking to the traditional album rather than the more experimental one that defined the year, but were too white and did not give proper praise to works by artists of color.

"As the birthplace of salsa in East Harlem, hip-hop in the Bronx and punk rock in the East Village, it's a fitting return to the city that gets the whole world dancing", said Menin, adding that it had taken a year of negotiations to secure the ceremony. The Album of the Year contenders Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars and Childish Gambino make up the most minority nominees since 2005.

This year, he is back with album of the year nominee "Damn." and record of the year entry "Humble".

However, Menin said: "I don't think there is (a misunderstanding)".

Jay-Z has earned eight Grammy nominations-more than any other artist this year.

"Everything just costs more to do in NY versus Los Angeles, in terms of facilities, stagehands, hotel rooms, transportation, general expenses of the show - all of which we account for, but it's just a different animal", Ehrlich added. Her floppy-haired bestie Ed Sheeran, meanwhile, beats Kendrick in the Song of the Year category.

Nominees for best pop vocal album include Lady Gaga's "Joanne", Coldplay's five-song EP "Kaleidoscope", Imagine Dragons' "Evolve", Lana Del Rey's "Lust for Life" and Kesha's "Rainbow", marking her first Grammy nomination.

As for the party's menu, the chefs at the Marriott Marquis are preparing an eclectic mix of four food stations, all inspired by NY neighborhoods.

That distinction belongs to the conductor Georg Solti, who won 31 Grammys before his death in 1997.

City Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin says that the Grammys and the week of events that come with the awards will generate around $200 million for the city's economy. He is tapped for Best Record and Album of the Year, Best R&B Performance and Song, and Best Urban Contemporary Album. She last won a Grammy in 2012 for Best Bluegrass Album for Paper Airplane.

Below we take a look at icons who now, and sadly, can't put these two words before their names: Grammy victor.
