The centre-back waited for Ben Foster to come out for a loose ball and Salah stole in front of him, and although Foster saved his effort, Firmino followed up with a sublime lob into the unguarded net.

West Bromwich Albion came back from behind to dump Liverpool out of the FA Cup in their fourth round fixture at Anfield on Saturday.

But at the end of an action-packed first half, which also included four goals and two lengthy delays for injuries and substitutions, the fourth official held up four minutes of added time.

And although it eventually led to the correct decisions being made the time it took, with nearly four minutes elapsing between Mohamed Salah being fouled and Craig Pawson awarding a penalty which Roberto Firmino missed, left supporters and players on all sides angry and frustrated.

Jay Rodriguez scored twice in the first 11 minutes, following Firmino's opener, with Joel Matip's own goal giving the visitors a two-goal cushion.

Klopp's men had plenty of the ball in the second period and Salah gave them some hope 12 minutes from time, but West Brom held on for a first win in 10 against the Merseysiders and a place in round five. Both Kieran Gibbs and Hal Robson-Kanu pulled up with muscle strains and were replaced by Ahmed Hegazi and Matt Phillips - who saw their team into the tunnel with a 3-1 lead after Liverpool's backline was breached yet again.

With three minutes taken in total to make the decision, the penalty was correctly awarded, with Salah sure to get to the ball but for the hand on his shirt from the West Brom midfielder.

But the anger West Brom felt at that decision was as nothing to their fury minutes later.

VAR became a big topic of conversation in the first half though, as West Brom was denied a third goal after the referee overturned Craig Dawson's goal upon review. Liverpool attempted to rally late in the game, but couldn't find an equaliser.
