Democrats are hiding evidence of illegal voting

Lawsuits also were filed that purported that releasing the requested state voter data would break privacy protections (even though the information often easily can be bought).

The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity was established by executive order in May after the president, who won the Electoral College but not the popular vote, insisted repeatedly that Hillary Clinton received approximately 2.9 million more votes because of illegal voting.

The mission of the commission was transferred to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The White House maintains there is substantial evidence of voter fraud, although past studies have found it to be exceptionally rare. A Care2 petition authored by the League of Women Voters had called on the Trump administration to stop the "dangerous and misleading" commission attracted over 12,000 signatures; the White House has finally done the right thing by ending it. In the little work that could be done, that already was debunked.

Kobach said that he would remain in close contact with the White House and the Department of Homeland Security as that agency begins to investigate the issue instead of the commission.

"It will get done faster, but the Democrats no longer have a seat at the table", he said. "At this point I think the committee would have ended up being unable to do the job that it was tasked to do just because, no matter what they came up with, it wasn't going to be viewed objectively".

The Republican president chose to remove the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity to avoid "endless legal battles at taxpayer expense", White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., recently upheld part of a claim by one commission member, Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, a Democrat, that he had been illegally excluded from its deliberations.

"DHS can do it more freely and efficiently than a commission can", he said. "The most important info that only the DHS can provide is how many aliens we have on the voter rolls".

Trump, as is his way, couldn't help but weigh in on Twitter on what he'd decided. "They fought hard that the Commission not see their records or methods because they know that many people are voting illegally".

The president continued with an argument in favor of voter identification laws.

Other civic duties, like jury duty, do require identification from participants.

In fact, no state has uncovered significant evidence to support the president's claim, and election officials, including many Republicans, have strongly rejected it.

Why do Democrats continually oppose these measures?

Former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, who now runs the voting rights group Let America Vote, called the commission un-American in a statement.

"Donald Trump's so-called election integrity commission was a scam and a fraud from beginning to end", said Marge Baker, executive vice president of the progressive People for the American Way.
