"The worldwide community, including the US, should stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, they have a responsibility to protect the rights of the Palestinian refugees and provide them with essential services".

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said in a statement on Wednesday that Brussels would allocate the funds over three years.

Nauert said concerns about regional stability were reflected in the decision to cut only a portion of the funding and not "zero" out the budget.

The US government officials said that they are going to release $60 million to the UNRWA which stands for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency but would hold back the remaining $65 million of the installment destined for Islamabad. Danon said, "UNRWA has proven time and again to be an agency that misuses the humanitarian aid of the worldwide community and instead supports anti-Israel propaganda, perpetuates the plight of Palestinian refugees and encourages hate", reported the Jerusalem Post.

The UNRWA operates 700 schools, serving more than 500,000 students.

Fatah Movement reaffirms the vital need for UNRWA to continue to achieve its mission to support Palestinian refugees and to make every effort to achieve their right of return, to the restitution of their property, especially their individually owned lands, and compensation, which could lead to the achievement of peace in the Middle East.

The ambassador sad that UNRWA views all Palestinian Arabs as refugees regardless of where they live, where they were born, or whether or not they have citizenship in another country. "This prevents them from falling prey to radicalisation and extreme violence".

That came after the Palestinian Authority said President Trump's plan to move the USA embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem disqualifies America as an unbiased mediator for Mideast peace.

The State Department's position raised skepticism in the light of a tweet sent by Trump on January 2, at the time when the $125 million contribution had been due to be paid.

The United States, Trump complained on Twitter, pays the Palestinians hundreds of millions of dollars each year and gets "no appreciation or respect...." "We would like other countries - in fact, other countries that criticize the United States ... to step forward and actually help with UNRWA, to do more", she said. We're not going to pay to be abused. It is even more appalling and cruel to also cut assistance funding for Palestine refugees.

Belgium, together with other European Union member states, is now UNRWA's largest donor.

More than half of the two million people in the the Gaza Strip, where the unemployment rate is 46%, are dependent on support from UNRWA and other humanitarian agencies.

The agency now offers support to approximately five million Palestinians in education, healthcare and housing, and is active in Palestinian occupied territories, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.
