"If someone really wants to use force to, as the USA representative to the United Nations put it, destroy North Korea. then I think that is playing with fire and a big mistake", Mr Lavrov said, according to Russian news agencies.

North Korea's Central News Agency (KCNA) said that the Hwasong-15 missile had covered a distance of 950 kilometers during its 53-minute flight, reaching an altitude of 4,475 kilometers.

He continued to say that Ms Haley's speech to the UN Security Council meeting was "a really bloodthirsty tirade". "We have repeatedly stated that the pressure of sanctions has been exhausted."He accused the United States of seeking to provoke Kim Jong-Un's regime".

The call by Haley was made a day after defiant North Korea fired it's first missile since September 15 which it claimed could reach mainland USA. North Korea responded by referring to Trump as a "dotard", which is a somewhat antiquated, but insulting term for an old, senile person.

"If someone really wants to use force to, as the USA representative to the United Nations put it, destroy North Korea.then I think that is playing with fire and a big mistake", said Lavrov, the Russian news agencies reported.

He added: 'We will do everything to ensure that [the use of force] doesn't happen so that the problem is decided only using peaceful and political-diplomatic means'.

The Trump administration vowed to slap additional sanctions on North Korea after the reclusive country test-launched its most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) yet, with a range capable of striking Washington, DC.

As Trump and Kim have traded insults and threats from across the globe, North Korea has stubbornly refused to step away from its nuclear program despite mounting pressure from the worldwide community.
