LIONEL MESSI HAS affirmed that he has no problem with sitting out certain games for Barcelona, after featuring on the bench in recent weeks.

The five-time Ballon d'Or victor recently signed a new deal with Barcelona that runs to 2021.

And the City boss stressed his club had not made the reported huge summer offer to the Argentina captain.

Asked about the speculation of City's offer to Messi, Guardiola said: "That's not true".

With the likes of Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, Lionel Messi would have been a fine addition to their already star-studded squad. Lionel Messi started his career at Barcelona and he is going to finish it there. "People want results and, if they don't get results, they want new faces".

Kevin De Bruyne is suspended and youngster Phil Foden included, with Guardiola saying: "He has the same chance to play".

And he made no secret of his dislike at being amongst the subs.

The Argentina captain has played nearly every minute possible with his team when fit, and was nearly never benched during Luis Enrique's tenure at Camp Nou.

However, speaking ahead of City's Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, Guardiola, who oversaw the bulk of Messi's rise to becoming arguably the greatest player of all time, rejected talk that a transfer was ever on the cards. We are the first ones to want to win with the national team.

"We have had some good games, or good spells under Sampaoli". We are full of confidence. "It's much more hard for us to play at home than on the road". "For us, it is a big challenge to play against them".
