Whether Diaz ultimately returns to the cage or the ring, don't expect it to happen any time soon.

"So, if he applied, I would see no reason why we wouldn't license him".

As a contracted UFC fighter, McGregor was only able to negotiate August's highly-anticipated boxing match against Floyd Mayweather with White overseeing the entire process.

There is also the issue that White and Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum have a very frosty relationship which has lasted for many years.

Asked if he had already approached McGregor's handlers for such a fight, Pacquiao told AFP, "initially, but we have not yet had any follow-up conversations".

Dana White has also gone on record to say that Conor McGregor may never step into the Octagon again after receiving over $100 million for his fight with Mayweather. Although McGregor lost, he remains a huge crossover star with massive earning potential against just about any boxer.

"That would be weird because he's under contract with us", White said, according to ESPN.

The big question - will the fight actually get made?

Rumors began to swirl late last month that the UFC was interested in booking a welterweight title fight between champion Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz for December 30's UFC 219 in Las Vegas, Nevada, but UFC President Dana White quickly shut down those rumors, saying the idea was simply mishandled by a company executive. "If that's true, I will be suing Manny Pacquiao and whoever is representing him". Following an ominous tweet from Diaz hinting at a jump from the UFC Octagon to the boxing ring, NSAC executive director Bob Bennett discussed the possible move, and he seemed downright excited at the prospect of overseeing Diaz's in-ring debut.

Pacquiao has not fought since losing his WBO welterweight title to Australia's Jeff Horn in July.

The UFC has been in discussions with McGregor regarding a new deal.
