On Dec. 20, the artist had replied to an open letter by a New Zealand site The Spinoff titled "Dear Lorde, here's why we are urging you to boycott Israel".

The statement continued to say it is a dream of Lorde's to visit Tel Aviv and that she was "truly sorry to reverse my commitment to come play for you". Singers Lauryn Hill, Elvis Costello, Gil Scott-Heron and Pink Floyd founder Roger Waters have all refused to perform in the nation.

Roseanne Barr, most famous for her hit television sitcom Roseanne, has taken to Twitter to slam Lorde after her decision to cancel the gig following pressure from anti-Israel activists.

Israeli Culture Minister Miri Regev said she hoped Lorde would reconsider her decision.

Singer Lorde has cancelled a planned performance in the Israeli capital, Tel Aviv, following backlash from supporters of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) campaign. "To be a heroine of pure culture, free from any foreign - and ridiculous - political considerations".

Since Lorde is from New Zealand, Dayenu: New Zealand Jews against the illegal occupation of Palestinian land and lives, weighed in, thanking Lorde for "a holiday miracle".

Yesterday concert promoter Eran Arielli posted on Facebook that show had been cancelled but he had no complaints about Lorde.

The show's Israeli promoter, Eran Arielli, announced the cancelation on December 24 and apologized for raising the hopes of fans who wished to see the artist perform in Tel Aviv.

"She parts company with Sia, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Gaga, Kygo, Elton John, Chainsmokers, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, Morrissey, Queen, Kanye West, Rod Stewart, Bryan Adams, Radiohead, Nick Cave, Guns N' Roses and Justin Bieber, to name just some of those who have performed in Israel in the last few years despite threats and calls not to", she said.

"Playing there, performing there, would be seen to be breaking the boycott and so she will be seen to be supporting Israeli policy and that is something that we abhor. We hope that her actions will inspire Lorde's many young, progressive fans to carry on the movement and speak out against injustice".

"We asked Lorde to not break the boycott and to not support the occupation of Palestinian lands, the destruction of Palestinian lands, homes and lives and I am proud of her courageous response that testifies that she has an open progressive mind, is concerned about social justice", Sachs told Walla.
