Multiple outlets are reporting that Florida State football coach Jimbo Fisher has resigned to take the top coaching job at Texas A&M.

Fisher had hoped to wait until after Florida State's regular season finale before announcing the move. The Noles will win and move to 6-6, extending their bowl streak to 36 years in an otherwise terrible season.

Fisher, who had dodged questions about his interest in Texas A&M for the last two weeks, said as recently as Thursday that he meant to coach on Saturday.

Florida State is playing UL-Monroe on Saturday. He succeeded Bobby Bowden in 2010.

"No call, no text, you could have said something..." I've known him forever, when I was at Alabama and he was at Auburn.

Florida State issued official statement's on Fisher's departure on Friday.

"President Thrasher and I have worked together through this challenging period while coach Fisher was making a decision, and I appreciate the cooperation, support and leadership he has provided", athletic director Stan Wilcox said.

Fisher won the BCS National Championship in 2013 with the Seminoles and was 83-23 in eight seasons as their head coach.

The Seminoles could have gone into a scant Doak Campell Stadium and just fall flat, but interim head coach Odell Haggins and his staff made sure that was not going to happen, as they put up 504 yards of total offense in the win. They'll hire a great coach.

Fisher's connection to Texas A&M comes in the form of Scott Woodward, who knows Fisher from their days at LSU. I don't have any doubt about that. The school's only national title came in 1939. And I guess we'll see [Fisher] next year, if that's what he's going to do.
