CHENNAI Income-Tax searches on the premises of VK Sasikala and her kin, which commenced on the early morning hours of November 9, extended to late leader J Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence "Veda Nilayam" Friday late night, sparking unrest among AIADMK cadres loyal to Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dinakaran. "It pains us that there has been a raid at Jayalalithaa's house which we consider as a temple and the state government was in the process of converting it into a memorial", he said.

Meanwhile, after reports o the IT raids broke, Sasikala's lawyers requested the officials to allow them to be present during the search, but their request was turned down.

Claiming that the people are by their side and the "traitors" will be taught a lesson, Dinakaran said the raids are insulting to Jayalalithaa. When the Poes Garden house was already under the custody of state government, why was there no prior intimation before trying to enter Jayalalithaa's room? She is a legal heir of Jayalalithaa.

TTV Dinakaran, criticised the Chief Minister and the other Ministers for being mute spectators for all the events.

Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambidurai said Jayalalithaa's residence was a "sacred" place and nothing should be done to bring disrepute to it. "We received input that some important electronic storage devices are going to be removed from the two rooms", an I-T official said.

Speaking to Express, a senior income tax official claimed they found original documents pertaining to the shell companies run by the clan after searching the rooms used by Sasikala in the Poes Garden residence.

According to him, it was a "limited mission". Divakaran's premises were also raided by I-T officials last week as part of multi-city searches of those associated with Sasikala.

Sources said that the raid was carried out following a tip-off that some electronic devices were to be "clandestinely removed" from rooms that VK Sasikala, Jayalalithaa's long-time aide who is now in jail, used during her stay at the Poes Garden home.
