"All the Lebanese are prepared to fight against 'Israel.' Yes, we are a small country, but we have reestablished our national unity, and part of that is a united opposition to anyone who attacks our country".

JERUSALEM--Israel Air Force jets reportedly fired on an ammunition warehouse in Syria Wednesday evening.

"Israel planes flew over eastern Lebanon, in violation of Lebanese airspace, and conducted an airstrike in a rural area of Homs", a top Lebanese security official said on condition of anonymity due to the issue's sensitivity.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group, reported that the strike targeted a Syrian military or Hizbullah installation that was believed to manufacture rockets.

During the past few years, Israel has frequently attacked military targets in Syria in what is considered as an attempt to prop up terrorist groups that have been suffering heavy defeats against Syrian government forces.

Stressing that any "Israeli" military action against Lebanon would not be successful, Aoun made clear that "no one can rely on anyone [else] to defend his country".

It warned that it would intensify its response if stray fire from the Syrian conflict continued to fall in Israeli territory.

Two weeks ago, the IAF attacked and destroyed a Syrian SA-5 anti-aircraft battery east of Damascus after it fired a surface-to-air missile at Israeli jets.
