Barcelona might struggle to raise the winter funds it would require to tempt Liverpool into selling such a key figure halfway through the season, although claims of a "promise" between them and Coutinho would seek to unsettle any harmony.

Liverpool will continue to resist Barcelona's approaches for Philippe Coutinho.

But despite Liverpool's stance, Barcelona's chief executive Oscar Grau revealed his club's plans to try again - although he said they would still need to sell players to raise more funds.

'We are ready to sign Coutinho or any other player the technical staff request in the winter window, ' Grau insisted.

From Barcelona's point of view, the Brazilian will be cup-tied in the Champions League, which means there will be little value in signing a player they can not feature in their most important competition.

El Mundo Deportivo now report Barca are "still in regular contact" with the 25-year-old, who has scored three goals for Jurgen Klopp's men this season.

The Times' Paul Joyce, elaborating on Grau's comments, said that "Liverpool will be angered" by Barcelona's renewed efforts.

The transfer saga dominated the headlines throughout the summer after Coutinho handed in a transfer request and the Spanish giants bid £118m.

After having three bids rejected last summer, the third of which was rumoured to be in the region of £119 million, the media are championing different stories with regards to what might happen this January.
