It was an incredible thing to watch so many female-fronted stories be embraced in this way; stories that allow actors like Emmy winners Elizabeth Moss (Outstanding Lead Actress-Drama), Ann Dowd (Outstanding Supporting Actress-Drama), Nicole Kidman (Outstanding Lead Actress-TV Movie/Limited Series), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Outstanding Lead Actress-Comedy), and Laura Dern (Outstanding Supporting Actress-TV Movie/Limited Series) the opportunity to shine.

"We did have a whole storyline on an impeachment but we abandoned that because we were worried" that someone "else might get to it first", she said. Her first Emmy win was when she was 35.

Actress Elisabeth Moss was just a little excited when she accepted her first ever Emmy Award for her role in "The Handmaid's Tale" on Sunday night. She now holds the record for most Emmys won for the same role in the same series, as well as the most consecutive wins.

Another big victor: "Big Little Lies", which won Best Limited Series, Best Actress (Nicole Kidman), Best Supporting Actor (Alexander Skarsgard), Best Supporting Actress (Laura Dern) and Best Director.

Backstage after her-and the show's-victory at the 69th annual event, Louis-Dreyfus marveled at the major milestone.

For his win for his portrayal of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, Alec Baldwin is the first actor from a variety show to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy since Tom Poston on the Steve Allen Show in 1959. He also won the prize for comedy series directing for his work on the show. Of the six women who won the female acting categories this year, four of them were 50 and up. "You are fearless and strong and smart", she said. Additionally, this win ties her with Cloris Leachman for most total Emmy acting wins (they both now have eight).

Waithe also made history when she became the first black woman to win an Emmy for comedy writing.

The only other actor to ever come close to that sort of winning streak in the category has been Helen Hunt.

"This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period, in person and around the world", Spicer said.
