Isaiah Thomas May Be Out Until All-Star Break

The Celtics had their own hard decision to make with Thomas, a 5-9 dynamo who had become a fan favorite, as well as a two-time all-star, since joining the team in 2015, but who was entering the final year of his contract and was set to make upward $30 million per season.

The report was puzzling, considering the Celtics had been open about the state of Thomas' hip.

Thomas, a second-team All-NBA player for the Boston Celtics, was included in a trade to Cleveland for four-time All-Star Kyrie Irving on August 22, but uncertainty surrounding his anticipated return to the court has stalled the finalizing of the deal.

In a video message "just to Cleveland", Irving, who was officially dealt to the Boston Celtics earlier this month, reflected "to my teammates, insane stories, crazy experiences, and unbelievable human beings, man".

All-Star point guards Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas might not have switched teams just yet.

"Thank you From my whole being for being there as I was a 19 year old kid coming into the league, to now where I start another step in the journey as a 25 year old Evolving man".

The Cavaliers selected Irving with the No. 1 overall pick in 2011 after he played in just 11 games at Duke because of injury.

With this being the a year ago of LeBron James' contract with the Cavaliers, Thomas' injury could be devastating for Cleveland's chances to earn a top-two seed in the Eastern Conference and get back to the NBA Finals. "I'll be back, and I'll be the same player".

Irving's comments were his first since the trade.

Thomas ended his season prematurely after aggravating a recurring torn right labrum in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, ironically against the Cavaliers. "And connecting with everyone because it matters and I care, and I love the world and I love people", the point guard said.

Many fans are happy to welcome him to Boston and hope he will put up 50 points against Cleveland if both teams find themselves in the playoffs, which is a likely scenario. Although technically traded to the Celtics earlier in the month of August, the Irving swap between the Cavaliers and Celtics was not made official until just recently. Thomas has been rehabilitating his injury, and he told ESPN on Tuesday that he expected to play this season and believed he would return to an elite level.
