The gender pay gap between film stars has been further exposed by the analysis as it shows the top 10 highest-earning men took home almost three times as much as their female counterparts.

Forbes explained that there are more action-packed roles for men than there are for women. Wahlberg took over the spot that was previously occupied by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who fell into second place with his estimated $65 million.

Forbes released its two annual lists of the highest-paid actors and actresses, revealing a continuing gender wage gap in Hollywood.

Emma Stone didn't even make the list of the top 10 list of highest-paid actors overall, despite La La Land being a grand hit, as compared to Mark's movie, which was a dud. The former, however, did not do well at the box office and only scored a 15 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wahlberg just barely edged out last year's top-ranked star, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Patriots Day was another box office dude starring Wahlberg during the scoring period. Another one of his roles that has kept him on top has been his role in HBO's Ballers.

Forbes notes that a quarter of the actors on this year's list were born outside the US, including three stars from India's Bollywood.

According to a study from the University of Southern California published previous year, women account for 28.7% of the roles spoken in Hollywood.

Dorchester's own Mark Wahlberg is now the world's highest-paid actor.

Oscar victor Emma Stone was the highest-paid actress.

Fellow Fast and the Furious star Vin Diesel comes in at the number three spot with $54.5 million, followed by Adam Sandler at number four with $50.5 million.
