There are improvements like the appearance of current data on Google Calendar app icon, pinch to overview, and pressing the date widget opens the default calendar app, among others. Most major manufacturers like Samsung or LG are obviously certified by Google already, but if you're looking to buy from less well known company, looking out for that green shield on your next phone could save you a lot of trouble in the long run.

Google is trying to make sure that Android users don't end up downloading potentially risky apps even from third-party stores.

Both iOS 11 and Android Oreo come with various notification channels that can be used to customize notifications' background control all types of notifications.

The world has been going gaga over getting Android Oreo for their smartphones and it's time when Android's TV version also gets the sweet treatment. While you may not be able to experience Android Oreo in all its glory, you may be able to get a taste of the update by installing the latest version of Google's Pixel Launcher on your device, completely replacing your homescreen with the look and feel of the update. So if you are using the Chrome browser or Amazon app store to download an app, the new permission system will provide the option to "always allow apps" or "ask every time" before an app downloaded from Chrome or Amazon app store can be installed.

Smartphone apps are still the way most consumers access digital content and information, but as the mobile marketplace matures and other avenues of interactivity emerge (e.g., voice-activation) new entrants into the app landscape may face greater challenges when it comes to grabbing attention.

Another new feature that makes navigating the interface easier. With Android O, you will be warned if an app is trying to install an update, to help you identify PHAs and remove it from the device.

If your device is not certified, we have not ensured basic security features or apps from Google and the Play Store can work as intended.

Devices certified by Google will now carry the Play Protect branding on the retail box.
