How Conor McGregor went from welfare to self-made millionaire

Gennady Golovkin has dismissed the idea that Floyd Mayweather's comeback fight against UFC champion Conor McGregor will overshadow his highly anticipated bout with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Only Brock Lesnar's fight against Frank Mir in 2009 is sandwiched between those two. McGregor will be competing in his first sanctioned boxing match against a boxer widely regarded as the best of his era, and arguably the sport's greatest-ever defensive fighter. "If Mayweather turns this thing into a track meet and runs away from him, whatever happens, I don't know", said White. But like it or not, the fight is happening and if you're looking to cash in at the sportsbook there are plenty of opportunities to do so. McGregor, he's won most of his fights standing up, punching.

Well, we ain't seen nothing yet.

And it looks like the tour will be making a pit-stop in McGregor's native Dublin, according to respected MMA journalist Luke Thomas, who revealed last night that Ireland has been earmarked as one destination for a world press tour. He does these exceptional things all the time, if he says he's gonna go in and knock him out, he's gonna go in and knock him out.

Mayweather, who retired in 2015 with a 49-0 record, is coming back to face McGregor on August 26, three weeks before Golovkin's middleweight showdown with Mexican Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the same Las Vegas venue. "I think it'll take a couple of rounds", Rody added.

Floyd himself thinks differently, saying that he raked in $25 million before he stepped into the ring, and made $300 million on the Pacquiao bout.

Yes, some people seem to think that might be Mayweather that McGregor is taking a swing at.

USA television network Showtime holds the broadcast rights to the PPV fight and so McGregor will fight under a separate promotion form the UFC, meaning he will not be beholden to the UFC's exclusive apparel deal with the brand, which sees all its athletes wear Reebok apparel during competition. "People all around the world demanded this fight so I had to give them what they wanted to see", Mayweather told BSOTV in an interview that aired Saturday.
