A houseboat ran over and killed a 4-year-old Texas girl and the vessel's operator has been charged with criminally negligent homicide.

4-year-old Katlyn Oliver died from her injuries on June 23 at 7:45 at Scott and White Hospital according to Temple PD.

As Crime Online previously reported, Kaitlyn was playing in the water Lake Belton in Temple, Texas, when the boat Bernal was driving reversed into her and caught the little girl in the boat's propellors.

43-year-old Jason Bernal from Killeen who was arrested on the night a 4-year-old died after being struck by a houseboat has been charged with criminal negligent homicide.

Bernal's bond is set at $150,000. Bernal told authorities that he could not see behind him due to his boat being three stories tall.

Police say the investigation is continuing and it's not clear if charges will be filed against the driver of the boat. The father's legs were severed in the accident and he has been listed in serious condition.

The witness said she told the driver of the boat not to park in the area because there were children swimming the area. A witness at the scene stated she saw the boat backing up and heard people in the water yelling.

Police in a statement Sunday did not specify whether Bernal was driving the houseboat.

Crews from Morgan's Point Resort Dive Team and Police Department, Temple Fire Department, the Core of Engineer, and Texas Parks and Wildlife assisted.
