Amal's mother, Baria Alamuddin, was present at the hospital but George's parents Nick and Nina Clooney were back home in Kentucky.

Nick, who lives in northern Kentucky, called the global human rights lawyer and his daughter-in-law, Amal Clooney, a "super-woman" and "amazing", and said that the gorgeous babies look like their Oscar-winning dad. He said, "George - his eyes were glazed, so I'm not sure that he was sober. She is an incredible woman", the journalist shared.

"George will be an absolutely wonderful father". I'm supposed to be a reporter, therefore observant, but I really don't know how to describe one attractive baby from another handsome baby - these are two lovely babies. "These are two lovely babies", he added.

Nick said he is head-over-heels in love with his "perfect" grandchildren who he described as "absolutely beautiful".

Nick Clooney told The Associated Press Wednesday that he has seen the twins, Ella and Alexander, who were born Tuesday morning in London. "Of course, for her, that's a very small house". We'll figure that out. "Both sound terrific. They look great, and both George and Amal are doing wonderfully well".

George married Amal, a 39-year-old global human rights lawyer, in 2014 after decades of being famously single. "I don't know what that means", said the proud grandfather.

"Ella, Alexander and Amal are all healthy, happy and doing fine", the actor's publicist Stan Rosenfield confirmed in a statement to BBC News.

Indeed, it's been a very busy week for George and Amal Clooney, with their new twins having just entered this world.

The announcement ended with, in true Clooney fashion, this quip: "George is sedated and should recover in a few days".
