US diplomat: China tightened border controls with N. Korea

Mike Elleman, the senior fellow for missile defense at the Institute for International Strategic Studies told Business Insider that a recent North Korea missile launch featured a new rocket engine which improves on the earlier Musudan design that had failed countless times.

"We pin great hopes on President Putin and Russian Federation, who could play a constructive role in solving this issue", the envoy said, adding that Vladimir Putin "has a great experience in state leadership and has very good ties to leaders of various parties concerned".

The Unification Ministry says the Seoul-based Korean Sharing Movement would be allowed to communicate with North Korea to discuss how to deal with malaria in North Korea.

"While almost impossible to predict when this capability will be operational, the North Korean regime is committed and is on a pathway where this capability is inevitable".

The United States plans to shoot down an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for the first time in a test next week as North Korea is trying to develop one. There are no restrictions on travel to the country despite recent tensions over its reported development of a new missile capable of reaching Japan and major US military bases.

Other aid organizations are also seeking government permits to contact the North.

A U.S. State Department travel warning is now in effect for North Korea.

The U.S. has been talking to Beijing about taking action against specific firms and is waiting to see what sort of action China will take, she said.

"China has always believed that if there's a state of tension, and if parties are unable to return to the negotiating table, then that is of course not conducive to solving the peninsula's nuclear issue or to regional peace and stability", China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said yesterday when asked about Ms Thornton's comments.

He also reiterated Beijing's call for a renewal of the six-nation denuclearization talks that have been frozen since 2009.

Meanwhile, North Korea has ignored all calls to ends its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, saying they are necessary as defense against United States aggression.

Under South Korean law citizens much get permission from the MOU before making contact with North Koreans. The Trump administration has yet to announce its intentions on missile defense.

Republican Representative Joe Wilson, one of the Congressman who introduced the bill, told WTKR that there has been an increase in trips to North Korea by Americans and other Western tourists.
