The tallest of the buildings will be the museum portion of the center, will hold exhibitions and public space, while the forum and library will be public resources to further the civic goals of the center. The forum and library buildings are meant to be used for study and foundation programming.

Michelle Obama, who was born in Chicago, on Wednesday said she was "excited by the potential" of the center.

Along with the promised digitization of Obama's paper files, the foundation also delivered more than 250 terabytes of digital records, which include about 300 million emails, for NARA to host. "It's not as good as it could be".

The first images and models of Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects' plans for the Obama Presidential Library in Chicago have been revealed.

The museum (in rendering above) will be the largest structure on the 200,000-to-225,000-square-foot campus. Obama said he hopes the "people's park" he envisions will "restore Jackson Park to the original vision". As Obama noted, "We want to make sure that some of those young people can get trained so people don't say, 'Why didn't you hire anybody from the neighborhood?'"

Obama's center is forecast to cost more than $500 million to create and should open in 2020 or 2021, according to CBS Chicago.

"There are a lot of presidential libraries and I think there is a tendency to think of this as a monument to the past, to think of it as something that is backwards-looking ..."

Barack Obama spent his first few months of post-presidential life away from the public eye, but now it appears the vacation is over. The city has tallied more than 950 murders since the beginning of 2016, with the bulk of the killings in predominantly African-American and Latino neighborhoods on the city's South and West sides.

She returned to the South Shore Cultural Center where the Obamas were married 25 years ago.

Barack Obama said he will launch the first of his center's programs this year, aimed primarily at young people and motivating them to enter public service. "Let's face it, you all want to see Michelle's dresses", Obama said, according to the Sun-Times.

"The place we are developing will be integrally a part of Jackson Park".

The former president was scheduled to participate in a roundtable discussion to "update the community" on the progress of the centre, which will be in Jackson Park.
