1 dead, 1 injured after being hit by vehicle in Lindenhurst

A woman in NY was killed on Mother's Day by an out-of-control auto after pushing her daughter to safety.

Diane Aluska of Babylon, NY, pushed her 16-year-old daughter out of harm's way on Mother's Day when a vehicle came barreling towards them on a sidewalk in neighboring Lindenhurst.

Officials say the incident appears to be an accident, and no criminality is suspected.

"There is no doubt she saved her daughter's life", Murphy continued.

Diane Aluska, 55, of Lindenhurst, was pronounced dead at a hospital after she was struck by a auto in Lindenhurst on Sunday morning, May 14, 2017, and pinned under the vehicle, Suffolk police said.

They were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, according to Nassau County police. Her daughter remains hospitalized, but is expected to survive.

"Diane Aluska. put her hand on her daughter's shoulder and attempted to push her out of the way", Det.

A Long Island mother has passed away after saving her 16-year-old daughter.

Diane shoved Jenna out of the way, taking the brunt of the collision herself.

The teen's father, Kenneth Aluska, told The Post she still hadn't received word about her mother's passing as he went out to the hospital to visit her on Sunday night. Witnesses pushed the auto off of her, police said.

"(The elderly woman) thought that she had put it in drive.

"She didn't know what happened", he said. "Me and her brother have to tell her".

Family, friends and community members are mourning the mother's tragic death.

Flags were lowered Monday at Babylon Town Hall, where Diane Aluska - a breast cancer survivor - was a beloved public servant for 16 years in the town clerk's office. "I just told her her mother is dead". Police classified it all as a tragic accident, and said Riolo seems to put her auto into reverse by mistake.
