The FBI on Monday arrested the wife of the gunman who killed 49 people at an Orlando gay nightclub a year ago, a massacre that intensified fears about attacks against Americans inspired by Islamic State, officials said.

Gunman Omar Mateen's wife, Noor Salman, was arrested for aiding and abetting, her lawyer told ABC News. She's facing charges in Florida including obstruction of justice.

Noor Salman was arrested in the San Francisco area Monday morning, Danner said.

She had moved to Contra Costa County after the shooting.

As CBS News reported, Salman told the Federal Bureau of Investigation that her husband had become radicalized in the year leading up to the attack.

Prosecutors had been weighing charges against her since then.

Investigators spent hours interviwing her after the June 12 shooting, trying to determine what she knew about her husband, Omar Mateen's plans to carryout the attack on the gay nightclub.

Mateen pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group in a 911 call to emergency officials during the standoff. Last month, Salman filed a petition in a California court to change the name of the son she had with Mateen.

"Certainly I can confirm that an arrest did occur in this case", Attorney General Loretta Lynch told MSNBC.
